Where can I find Howie's Bio?

Howie's bio, along with his management's, can be found at hdaee.org

How many CD's does Howie have or appear on?

Howie has only released one full fledged album so far entitled "Australia". There are plans for a new album sometime in 2003. Before "Australia" there were two EP's (each containing 4 songs). The first was the "White EP" and the second was the "Blue EP". Neither of these are available in stores. In addition to the two EP's "Australia", Howie has made a few appearances on other CD's, including the "Aware 8 Compilation" (Howie's original "Ghost") and the "I Am Sam" movie soundtrack (the Beatle's "Help"). The most recent release has been a new live 4-track disc. For more discography info, click here.

What are Howie's EP's and where can I get them?

Howie had two EP's before Australia - The "White EP" (because the CD was white), and a Blue EP (Because the CD was blue) entitled "CD Preview".

The White EP had the following songs on it:

1. Buzzing
2. Morning After
3. Girl Next Door
4. She Says

The Blue EP, CD Preview had the following songs on it:

1. Everything Else
2. She Says
3. Morning After
4. Buzzing

Buzzing and Morning after on this CD are the same tracks as on the White EP. She Says was rerecorded.

Everything Else and She Says from the Blue EP appear on Australia.

Unfortunately, neither CD is available for sale any more. There were not many copies of the White EP pressed, and they were not ever sold, just given away, and the last remaining copies for sale of the Blue EP were sold between July and September 2001.

How does Howie perform multiple guitar/vocal parts at once?

Howie has an assortment of pedals, all of which create different effects. Click Here to check all them out. Howie has come to be known by many aspects of his performance, one being his looping ability during a variety of songs.  The pedal to loop a portion of music is called a DL-4 by the company Line6. While in the "sampling" mode, Howie presses a button at the beginning of a phrase, and he hits again at the end of the phrase. After that he can layer many (usually 3 to 5 in his case) different guitar parts as he wants over the original pattern. He also uses a second DL-4 for his vocals.

Note: It is important to note that Howie does not bring any pre-recorded tracks to his performances. Looping is an art just like singing is an art. Do not confuse the loops and effects for something fake, they are created new and different every show.

There are many other features to the DL-4, and Howie has become very skilled at intertwining them (with the other pedals in his collection) into his songs. Once again, Click Here to read about his entire set-up.

Does Howie have a girlfriend?

I realize a bunch of you might want to know the answer to this question in hopes you might have a chance with him. However, we established a long time ago we were going to try and stay out of Howie's personal life as much as possible on the board. Call it "respect for Howie" if it makes you feel better.

Top

Does Howie smoke?

Yes.

Top

Why is Howie's first album titled "Australia"?

The title is based on a joke Howie liked to play on the audience at his shows. If you listen to old shows you will hear Howie not only claiming to be from many different places (i.e. England, Ireland, Australia, etc.), but using an accent throughout the whole show. He calls Maine his real hometown.

Why was a thread closed?

If you see beside your thread, or a thread you have posted in, this thread is closed. Threads can be closed for a number of reason, the following are just a few:

1) the topic you posted was inappropriate (as determined by a mod/admin)
2) the topic you posted was already a topic of another thread, no need for more than one thread about the same topic
3) the thread go out of hand, if the thread causes a fight or an argument it will be closed

Like I said these are just a few reasons a thread could be closed. If you thread is closed and you do not know why or are upset it was closed then fill out THIS FORM. Also if your thread was closed DO NOT start a new thread about the same subject...this will lead to that thread be closed and you being warned.

What is the PAT or Post-a-Thon?

The Post-a-Thon, or PAT, is the original Non Howie Day Forum. It is a place where you go to chat, vent or just post whatever is on your mind. It is a must-see for all visitors to the HDTB. It can be found in the Non Howie Day Forum.

Top

Why did my post disappear?

There are many reasons why a post would "disappear".

The most common reason is that you posted a new topic in the wrong forum. The simple solution here is to check the correct forum for your thread. It was probably moved there. For instance, if you posted a B&P request in the Howie Day Discussion forum, it was most likely moved to the trading/B&P forum. If you posted about a new artist to check out in the Non Howie Day Discussion forum, it was most likely moved to the Other Artists to check out forum.

There are only two other reasons why your post would disappear. The rarer of the two is an ezboard glitch. This rarely ever happens so you can feel safe ruling it out.

The third option is that your post was deleted by a moderator or administrator. It may have been deleted for several reasons.
1) If you posted the same topic in more than one forum, it was probably deleted from all but one forum.
2) If you spam the board with website links, self promotion, or an unreasonable amount of other artist promotion, it was probably deleted. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THIS BOARD.
3) If you posted something inappropriate it was probably deleted. This includes but is not limited to insulting/bashing others, bashing Howie (i.e. "Howie is a f-ing dumb---", if you don't like him, why are you even here?), or posting rumors, especially regarding Howie's personal life, since we do not discuss that here.

If you would like to contact someone about your post that disappeared, contact any administrator or moderator.

What does "ssia" mean?

ssia = Subject Says it all
The subject heading of the post says everything the poster wanted to say in the post.

Top

What does "top" mean?

This is what's called "bumping" a topic. The person who posted "top" just posted so that the topic would go to the top of the forum that it is located in and be more viewable by a larger amount of people. Usually when people top something, they feel it's important for people to see. Topping a thread is useful at different times of day, if something must be seen by the "night crowd" or "morning people" -groups that are only on at certain times of the day because of various factors like work and location. Terms that may also be used in this are "bump" and other variations of "top" and "bump".

Top

What does "ISO:" mean?

ISO = In search of
Commonly used when someone is looking for a show to trade for/ download/ B+P. It is also used if someone is searching for a person or information about a subject.

Can I trade MP3 based shows?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Trading MP3 based shows is strictly forbidden in the trading community. Why? Well, MP3 format is a lossy format. This means the more times you copy it and convert it to .wav the worse sounding the show becomes. Tapers spend thousands of dollars on their equipment so they want their recordings in 20 years to sound as good as the day the recorded them.

What is the difference between a vcd and an mpeg?

A vcd is a video compact disc. A video compact disc is made by placing an mpeg on a CDR in a format that can be read by many DVD players and is then able to watched on TV.

To watch a VCD on your computer, insert the VCD in your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and browse to the MPEGAV folder and double click on the .dat file and associate it with Media Player and open them with that.
To play a VCD with menus and still pictures use WinDVD or PowerDVD, insert the VCD and just hit Play.
Use a low resolution, like 640x480, on the monitor when watching a VCD to get best quality.

If you have any other questions go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/

What are md5's for?

They are like a digital fingerprint. When people download from servers, there is an md5 with the show. You run that md5 in MKW, and if it passes, it means all the files are complete. If it fails, one or more of the files are missing and/or incomplete.

More information can be found at http://www.etree.org/ or here
